Questions

Mostly the ones people ask when a budgeting app plans a year at a time and does not want their receipts.

What if I forget a month?

Nothing breaks. Months are completed in order, so the one you skipped is still waiting when you come back, and the numbers you need are the same ones you would have needed then: what your wallets held at the end of it.

If you genuinely cannot remember, put in your best estimate. General expenses for that month absorbs the difference, which is exactly what it is for.

What counts as a major expense?

Anything lumpy, irregular, or worth a decision: rent, travel, school fees, a laptop, money you put aside to invest. The rule of thumb is that if it varies a lot from month to month, or you want to plan it on purpose, name it.

Routine background spending stays out. Groceries and fuel and coffee are what general expenses is for, and naming them would only make more work for a number you already get for free.

What happens if I type the wrong balance?

You correct it. There is a pencil next to any completed month that opens every value in it, and general expenses is worked out again from what you fixed.

If the correction changes what the month ended with, the difference flows forward: later completed months shift by the same amount and open months re-estimate from there. You do not have to redo anything by hand.

Does Yearfolio connect to my bank?

No, and it is not planned. You type what your wallets hold once a month, as part of the ten minutes completing a month takes.

That is a deliberate trade. No bank connection means nothing of yours can read your transactions, no other company holds your bank sign-in, and there is nothing much to steal if the site were ever broken into.

Can I get my numbers out?

Yes. Any year exports as a CSV from Settings, and opens in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets. It is the same table you see on screen, one row per category and one column per month.

Amounts are written plainly with a dot for decimals and no currency symbol, so the file survives whatever your spreadsheet expects.

What happens to my data if I stop using it?

You can delete your account from Settings, and that removes your budget with it. Export first if you want to keep the numbers.

While the account exists, what is stored is what you typed: your categories, your amounts, and the account itself. Nothing is sold, and no advertiser sees any of it.

My income is irregular. Does this still work?

Better than a normal budget does, usually. You enter each month's income when you complete the month, so a variable salary or freelance work is recorded as it really landed rather than as a target you missed.

The part that needs care is the plan for months ahead. Estimate low, and correct as you go.

Do I have to start in January?

No. Setup builds the current calendar year whenever you arrive: the months behind you are filled in from your estimates and completed, ending on the amount you have today, and the current month opens ready to plan.

Can I use it with a partner?

Not as a shared budget. A Yearfolio account is one person's plan, and there is no way to invite someone into it.

People who share finances usually run it on the joint bank accounts, with one person completing the month. Shared access by email is on the list for Premium, which is not open yet.

Can I try it before entering anything real?

Yes. The first run offers a practice year filled with made-up numbers, so you can complete a month and change things without consequences. Nothing it writes is kept.

Premium will work the same way when it opens: it opens free, and runs to a January at least six months out. A month is not long enough to judge a year by.

What does it cost?

Nothing today. There is no payment form anywhere in the product and no card is asked for. Every account gets every feature the app has, including the ones that will become Premium.

Premium, at €59 a year, comes later. When it opens, Basic keeps this year and the next, one saved what-if, and one previous year on the charts, and the rest of what the app does today moves to Premium. Premium also gets what is still being built: goals that tell you what to change, past years loaded from old statements, and shared access for a partner.

When Premium does open, it opens free for everyone, including people already using Yearfolio. Start between January and July and it runs to the coming January; start later in the year and it runs to the January after that. If you are already here when it opens, that day counts as your start. Between six and seventeen months, and you are told your own date.
